The Return of Pen
Smart-Phone “The Return of Pen”
Note writing started to be given a keen attention by the public after a long period for it to be regarded as less advanced followed by an emergence of I-Phone. Starting with ‘Galaxy Note’ designed by Samsung Electronics, domestic companies now lead a special project so called ‘the return of pen.’
It has been long since a pen is equipped with the digital equipments with touch screen. PDA that had been developed based on ‘window mobile’ in the past had writing instruments named ‘Stylus PEN.’
However, stylus pen was too thin and had too much friction on the edge that the public had not been quite satisfied with it. Steve Jobs, the co-founder and previous CEO of the Apple, had also been reluctant to use stylus pen on the devices of Apple. He instead had insisted that ‘fingers are the most outstanding tools for pointing that humans have in the world’ and supported to use capacitive touch screen.
2 Million Sales of ‘Galaxy Note’ in the world
However, unlike the intention of Steve Jobs, there has still been a demand of using writing instruments since it was difficult to perform detailed operation using just fingers. In spite of aversion of Steve Jobs, accessories related to the pens that are usable on the smart-devices have
steadily been released.
Released last November, ‘Galaxy Note’ has been sold for more than
200 million devices as of now. In spite of a concern stating that
people would feel difficulty using galaxy note due to its size of
5.3 inch, more than 15 thousand devices have been sold in Korea
as of now. Reflecting a demand of customers wanting to use writing
Instrument has accomplished such an outstanding achievement.
Limit on using hands for detailed writing, drawing, and composing
The leader of the pen-based equipments in the field, ‘5.3 Galaxy Note’ has adopted family look with ‘Galaxy S2’ for the public to be well-used to preexisting Galaxy series. In addition, ‘10.1 Galaxy Note’ has been newly released targeting the electronic textbook market.
Especially, it has applied the ‘S-Pen’ that had been developed by WACOM in Japan to specialize in using the pen itself. S-Pen has a pressure of pushing the screen in 256 separate steps, and customers are now able to conveniently write a long paragraph or draw an image on the screen without any of difficulty.
4:3 Ratio of Optimus Vu, an Optimal Ratio for Reading Document and Rubber Dium Pen is newly equipped
Released on the 5th of this month, ‘Optimus Vu’ of LG
Electronics have emphasized a differentiation from Galaxy
Note with
4:3 ration screen as a trend-following device.
Galaxy Note was more suitable for watching videos or
drawing an image, but Optimus Vu is specialized in reading
books or taking notes..
Galaxy Note had introduced S-Pen, while Optimus Vu has
introduced rubber dium pen this time. More than 100 different
kinds of pen, made by rubber, currently sold in the market
were all suitable for delivering static electricity after a thorough test. Therefore,
according to LG Electronics, they have all been utilized for the pen.
It is expected for pen-based items to be more expanded in scope. Google, a company that currently develops the operating system of smart-phone, ‘Android,’ has installed a function of supporting stylus pen on the ‘Ice cream Sandwich’ of the latest version. Samsung Electronics has newly shown ‘Galaxy Note 10.1’ that was installed with S-Pen writing at the mobile exhibition at Barcelona in Spain named ‘Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012’ on February 27th.
Now, pens started being installed to items developed from other companies such as Lenovo ‘Think Pad Tablet’ that manufacturers of Android smart-devices started introducing a method utilizing pen-based input technology.
